OBD2 / EOBD — Universal

Supported Vehicles

KrispyGauge is fully tested against OBD-II vehicles running the ISO 15765-4 (CAN) protocol. The vehicles below are organised by make, and each one is marked either confirmed working by a KrispyGauge user or compatible but not yet tested.

500 kbit/s ISO 15765-4 (CAN) SAE J1979 / EOBD

Check your vehicle's OBD-II protocol before ordering. KrispyGauge speaks ISO 15765-4 (CAN) only. Vehicles using the older pre-CAN OBD-II protocols — ISO 9141-2, ISO 14230 (KWP2000), SAE J1850 PWM and SAE J1850 VPW — are not supported and will not communicate with the gauge. As a rule of thumb anything from 2008 onward is CAN-based, but the changeover happened at different times by market and manufacturer, so treat the year as a guide rather than a guarantee and confirm before you buy.

OBD-II Protocols ISO 15765-4 (CAN) required
ProtocolSupportNotes
ISO 15765-4 (CAN) Supported The protocol KrispyGauge is built and tested against. 500 kbit/s, 11-bit and 29-bit addressing. Mandatory on all vehicles sold new in the US from 2008 and the EU from 2004 (petrol) / 2008 (diesel).
ISO 9141-2 Not supported K-line serial. Common on European and Asian vehicles up to the mid-2000s.
ISO 14230 (KWP2000) Not supported K-line serial. Common on European and Asian vehicles up to the mid-2000s.
SAE J1850 PWM Not supported Ford, roughly 1996–2004.
SAE J1850 VPW Not supported GM, roughly 1996–2005.

Not sure which one you have? The quickest check is the OBD-II port itself: CAN vehicles have pins 6 and 14 populated (CAN-High and CAN-Low). If those two pins are empty, the vehicle is using one of the older protocols and will not work. Failing that, a cheap generic OBD-II scan tool will report the protocol it negotiated, and most manufacturers list it in the vehicle's service documentation. If you're still unsure, email us at [email protected] with the year, make, model and market before ordering and we'll check for you.

This list is not exhaustive — most petrol vehicles from 2008 onward (and diesels from 2014 onward) are OBD2/EOBD compliant and will work, even if they are not listed here. The entries below are either verified by a KrispyGauge user or known to run the right protocol — check the Support column for which. Confirmed a vehicle that isn't listed, or one that's marked untested? Let us know at [email protected] and we'll add it.

Confirmed Working a KrispyGauge user has verified this car. Compatible but Untested runs ISO 15765-4 and should work, but has not been verified yet.
