How to Back Up and Restore Your KrispyGauge Settings

Your gauge's settings — pages, channels, warning thresholds, colours and keypad mappings — can be saved to a file and loaded back in seconds. If you've spent time setting the gauge up, take a backup.

When to back up

• Before a firmware update — over WiFi or by USB.
• Before changing the ECU type — this wipes your settings completely.
• Before a factory reset.
• Whenever you finish setting something up you'd rather not do twice.

Taking a backup

1. Connect to the gauge and open http://4.3.2.1.
2. Go to Advanced → Backup.
3. Save the .json file to your phone or computer.

Rename it to something you'll recognise later — the car and the date works well, for example ae86-2026-09-01.json. Then get it off your phone and somewhere safe: email it to yourself or put it in cloud storage.

Restoring a backup

1. Connect to the gauge and open http://4.3.2.1.
2. Go to Advanced → Restore.
3. Choose your saved .json file and upload it.

The gauge loads the settings and goes back to the setup you saved.

Don't edit the file

The backup is readable text, which makes it tempting to change by hand. Don't, unless you fully understand how it's laid out.

Restoring a damaged or hand-edited file can corrupt the gauge's settings and leave it unresponsive, needing a factory reset or USB recovery to fix. Keep your backups as they were saved.

Copying settings to another gauge

A backup from one gauge can be restored to another — a quick way to set up a second gauge or copy your setup to another car.

One thing to change afterwards: if both gauges are on the same CAN bus, give the second one a different keypad ID (A or B) under Keypad. Two gauges sharing an ID interfere with each other. See running multiple KrispyGauges.
