Backup & Restore

Your gauge configuration — pages, channels, warning thresholds, colours and keypad mappings — can be saved to a file and loaded back in seconds. If you've spent time setting the gauge up, take a backup.

When to back up

• Before a firmware update — OTA or USB.
• Before changing ECU type — this wipes your configuration completely.
• Before a factory reset.
• Whenever you finish a round of setup you'd rather not do twice.

Taking a backup

1. Connect to the gauge and open http://4.3.2.1.
2. Go to Advanced → Backup.
3. Save the .json file to your phone or computer.

Rename it something you'll recognise later — the car and the date works well, e.g. ae86-2026-09-01.json. Then get it off your phone and somewhere safe: email it to yourself, or drop it in cloud storage.

Restoring a backup

1. Connect to the gauge and open http://4.3.2.1.
2. Go to Advanced → Restore.
3. Choose your saved .json file and upload it.

The gauge applies the configuration and returns to the setup you saved.

Don't edit the file

The backup is readable JSON, which makes it tempting to tweak by hand. Don't — unless you fully understand its structure.

Restoring a malformed or hand-edited file can corrupt the gauge configuration and leave it unresponsive, which means a factory reset or USB recovery to get back. Keep your backups intact and unmodified.

Moving settings between gauges

A backup taken from one gauge can be restored to another, which is a fast way to set up a second gauge or replicate a configuration across cars.

One thing to change afterwards: if you're running both gauges on the same CAN bus, give the second one a different keypad identity (A or B) under Keypad. Two gauges sharing an ID on one bus will interfere with each other.
